GamFratesi designed the Epic Dining Table for GUBI, a sculptural piece of furniture inspired by Greek columns and Roman architecture and named after ancient epic poems.
Crafted in Italy from travertine stone, the monolithic form highlights the materiality of the stone, the natural beauty of its veins and the vibrant texture of its unique patina – in which a new detail can be discovered with each use.
Inspired by historical examples of travertine constructions such as the Colosseum and St. Peter's Basilica in Rome, and by the material's renaissance in the 1970s in Southern Europe, the painting combines two simple geometric shapes, the circle and the hexagon, with references to the classical Greek column.
Stone options in neutral white or colorful burnt red each create a focal point of different intensity, bringing personality to private settings and naturalness and tactility to public interior spaces. The varying heights and diameters of the Epic Table Series allow a single monochromatic table to stand alone or be combined into dynamic groups of varying height and color.
